As I near graduation, it’s hard to pick a favorite memory, school year, or class. But, I’m not quite looking back yet, I’m still looking at my last couple months to make sure I fit in everything I want to while I still can. I still have two full months and I want to enjoy it as much as I can, but it’s hard to know how to fit in as much of the Berkeley experience as possible, when there’s nothing in person. I have decided on 3 main things to focus on for the rest of the semester to make sure I enjoy the last little bit of my time at Berkeley.
Food
Berkeley has amazing food and, believe it or not, there are still places I have meant to eat at since freshman year and still haven’t. These last few months, I am going back to try all of my favorite dishes again and trying all the restaurants I’ve meant to try for 4 years.
Getting Outside
Berkeley’s campus is truly beautiful, but so are the surrounding areas. The hills behind campus have hiking trails with views of the entire Bay Area, the campus itself is covered with paths going through eucalyptus grove and over strawberry creek, and Berkeley’s city is filled with vibrant murals and beautiful buildings. I used to love getting out every day and going to campus, so this semester I’m trying to get outside more. Specifically, I’m trying to take up running so I have an excuse to get outside every day in this beautiful environment. I don’t like running, I’ve never liked running, but I do love the excuse to see the city that I have fallen in love with in recent years.
Friends
Looking back over the past 4 years, I have taken many amazing classes, participated in heartwarming events, and helped with groundbreaking research. But what I remember the most when I look back at the 4 years are the friends and the people that surrounded me through the journey of Cal. So this semester, I am focusing on reaching out to friends I haven’t talked to in a long time, strengthening the friendships I have made along the way, and meeting with people virtually, while I still have my free school-sponsored Zoom Pro account.
The last 4 years have been amazing, but I’m not ready to leave them behind just yet. I am going to text every friend I’ve put in my phone, run through every street I’ve come to call home, and eat every meal I’ve salivated over. I still have two months left of my time at Berkeley and I plan to squeeze the absolute most out of them.
